What to do in life.............

For those who are wondering what to do in life...

I have seen most of the people saying - you should do in life, the thing you love to do, even if they are not doing the same.

Even some books, movies etc. tell us the same thing, just like we were told by Aamir Khan in 'Three Idiots'.

But the most challenging question which i face is "What is the thing that i love to do, what is my true passion?". I think not only me but most of us do not know the answer to this question and we don't even know how to figure this out. We are all running in a rat race without even wondering where this will take us to......

We did engineering following this rat race and most of us are now either doing MBA or are struggling to do it. Others are looking for either PSUs, ES, AS etc. etc.

I had a lot of discussions with my friends over this and it reminds me of a friend who always used to say "i will do what i love to do but the problem is, i still don't know what i love to do". He used to say that if i will not be able to figure out my true passion then i will become a teacher just like my parents are. Now, see how he went through things -
- We use to work in 'Honda Motors' together. We had a six month training period in Honda and after the training period we had to move to the divisions allocated to us. Our training was in Gurgaon Plant and he was allocated the Bhiwadi (Rajasthan) plant after the training period. He was very reluctant for changing locations so he denied to move to Bhiwadi. He left the job.
- Joined a bank as a probationary officer in his home town. He even left that job because still he was wondering what to do in life?.
- Now he started preparing for GATE, got a good score and got admission in to a good college, but still he was not satisfied. He even left that.
- Ultimately he came to his original idea, joined MSc in Maths in a university in his hometown. The motto was to become a teacher in a government school/college just like his parents. I remember he always used to say - "agar job ho to 9 se 2 ho".

Now take my case - I am frustrated with my job. I was frustrated with my first job in Honda so i switched to another company (even a completely different sector) and now i am more frustrated than what i was before. so now after experiencing these two jobs, i have decided that i would not be doing a job throughout my life. I would better work in some NGO or would even open a sweet shop rather than working in a corporate

Another idea i thought is i will start some business of my own, even most of my friends (except those working in PSUs) are also frustrated from their jobs and they too think of the same option - doing their own business.

I think, we all are choosing to becoming an entrepreneur but this is just an alternative to the job from which we all are frustrated. This doesn't mean that we love to be an entrepreneur.

I continued my search on figuring out my passion and came across a website which says if you will honestly answer the following questions, you can figure out what you love to do, your true passion -

  1. What is it that you like to do for its own sake, without any concern for reward or compliment? Do you like the joy of building things? Do you like to just create music? Do you like to teach?
  2. If you win a lottery, I mean the really, really big one how would you like to spend the rest of your life?
  3. If you were informed you are about to die shortly, what would you regret most as not having spent your time doing?
  4. No matter where on Earth you are. In the bush lands of Australia or high up in a Himalayan village what do you see yourself doing regardless of location?
  5. What activity can you just not see yourself doing without?
I didn't even find the answer to these questions but you can give it a try.

Would like to quote an example of a manager in my company who was passionate about soccer. He worked in the company for three years, didn't do any MBA or MS, left his job, joined a soccer coaching academy and now he coaches kids there.

Examples like these inspire me to do something different but still wondering what to do.

Still wondering how to move out of this rat race......
